Heart Transplant Recipient Marries Donor's Widow, Then Dies by Suicide

A man who received a heart transplant from a suicide victim later married the donor's widow and subsequently died by suicide himself, leading to speculation about the heart's influence.

Sonny Graham received a heart transplant from Terry Cottle, who died by suicide. Following the transplant, Graham married Cheryl, Terry Cottle's widow. In an apparent echo of his donor's death, Graham also died by suicide. This turn of events has prompted questions within Graham's family about whether the transplanted heart played a role in his actions.

Graham's family believes the man they knew before the transplant was different from the person he became afterward. His daughter, Michelle, stated that she no longer wanted anything to do with him after he reportedly destroyed his marriage to her mother following the transplant.

Terry and Cheryl Cottle met in 1988. At the time, Cheryl had two sons, and Terry was married to his high school sweetheart, Tammy, with whom he had two daughters.

Graham's son, Gray, also expressed disbelief, stating that his father had told him there was "nothing worth killing yourself over." Gray, pictured with his sister Michelle, refuses to believe his father took his own life.
