Alan “Skip” Panettiere, the father of actress Hayden Panettiere, was reportedly beginning to recover from the death of his son, Jansen Panettiere, when the actress died on Sunday, according to neighbors in their Piermont, New York, community.

Jansen Panettiere, 28, died in February 2023 from an undiagnosed heart condition. His father, a well-known figure in the village, had reportedly "retreated" after his son's death. An acquaintance noted that Skip "seemed like he was starting to come back from it" before Hayden's passing.

Hayden Panettiere, known for her roles in "Heroes" and "Nashville," died at the age of 36 in a South Carolina AirBnb apartment. Reports indicate she suffered cardiac arrest following a suspected overdose. Panettiere had publicly struggled with opioid and alcohol addiction.

Locals recalled on Monday that the actress had visited her father in New York approximately one month prior to her death. Vittorio Lanni, owner of Trattoria da Vittorio, a restaurant near Skip Panettiere's apartment, stated that Hayden would dine at his establishment and his other restaurant. Lanni described Skip as a "great customer, a great friend, a great guy" and a strong supporter of the neighborhood.
