The investigation into the death of actress Hayden Panettiere has been closed, with her overdose officially ruled accidental, a representative for the Greenville Police Department confirmed to Page Six.

"Based on the Medical Examiner’s determination and the findings of the investigation, Hayden Panettiere’s death has been ruled accidental. The Greenville Police Department has concluded its investigation," the representative stated.

Panettiere, 36, was found unresponsive at an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 16. First responders attempted resuscitation but pronounced her dead at the scene at 2:32 p.m. A 911 call made that afternoon reported a woman in cardiac arrest.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office had previously determined that Panettiere died from the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine, according to her toxicology report. An autopsy found no signs of trauma that contributed to her death.

Despite the coroner's accidental ruling in September, the police investigation remained open until its recent conclusion.

Panettiere’s on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother, Zach, were present at the apartment when first responders arrived. Zach Hickerson reportedly made the 911 call and attempted CPR on the actress while speaking with the operator.
