The death of actress Hayden Panettiere, 36, has been ruled accidental, concluding a local police investigation in South Carolina, authorities announced. Panettiere died in August from the toxic effects of fentanyl, Xanax, and other drugs found in her system.
The Greenville Police Department stated that based on the medical examiner's report and the findings of their investigation, her death was determined to be accidental. The US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) had reportedly joined the local probe, but it is unclear if that agency's investigation has also concluded.
Panettiere, known for her roles in the television series "Heroes" and "Nashville," was found deceased in August. The medical examiner's report, released last month, identified a drug overdose as the cause of death. The BBC has contacted the DEA for comment regarding the status of their inquiry.
