Joseph Mazzello, known for his roles in "Jurassic Park" and "Bohemian Rhapsody," has recalled a pivotal moment with the late actress Hayden Panettiere on the set of the 2004 film "Raising Helen." Mazzello, who was experiencing a career lull at the time, received a candid pep talk from Panettiere that significantly boosted his self-confidence.

Mazzello played a minor role as Audrey Davis's prom date in "Raising Helen," while Panettiere starred as Audrey, one of the children unexpectedly left in the care of her sister, played by Kate Hudson. Mazzello stated that his role had been further reduced and his main scene cut, leaving him feeling "down about myself."

During his first day of shooting, Panettiere approached Mazzello during lunch and, in a moment he described as "tough love," asked him why he was taking such a small part given his talent. "You're so talented and do so much amazing work, why are you doing this bit part in this movie?" Mazzello recalled her saying.

This direct exchange, from a "clearly rising star" who noticed him, provided Mazzello with the "boost of self-confidence" he desperately needed. He noted that while they didn't stay in close contact, he always felt happy seeing Panettiere succeed.

Panettiere, who died Sunday at age 36, had a career that began in childhood. She was open about her struggles with postpartum depression and addiction in later years. Her father confirmed her death, and authorities responded to a cardiac arrest call at her South Carolina apartment. The coroner's office reported no signs of foul play, and a cause of death is pending.

Mazzello concluded his tribute by expressing sadness over the loss of Panettiere's talent, stating, "SHE was so talented. SHE did such amazing work. I'm so sad we won't see more of it. My heart goes out to Hayden and her family."

Panettiere's career spanned television and film, including the series "Nashville" and "Heroes," as well as "Bring It On: All or Nothing" and "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants."
