Audio recordings detail the frantic efforts made by Zach Hickerson to save the actress's life.
Newly released 911 audio recordings capture the desperate attempts made by Zach Hickerson, brother of Bryan Hickerson, to save actress Hayden Panettiere’s life. The recordings, obtained by CBS News, detail the moments leading up to Panettiere’s death on August 16.
Zach Hickerson, who stated he had just returned from church, called authorities in a panic after finding Panettiere unresponsive in an Airbnb in South Carolina. "Oh god, oh my god," he can be heard saying on the call, before informing the dispatcher that Panettiere was not breathing.
The dispatcher guided Hickerson through performing CPR, instructing him to begin ventilation while searching for a defibrillator, which was not available. First responders arrived and took over the life-saving measures.
The "Heroes" alum was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:32 p.m. local time at the age of 36. Her death was later confirmed by her father, Skip Panettiere, who issued a statement describing his daughter as "an incredible light and a force of nature." He added, "We ask for privacy as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss."
Panettiere's cause of death was determined to be from the toxic effects of 4-ANPP, fentanyl, methocarbamol, alprazolam, and quetiapine. The manner of death was ruled an accident, with no signs of trauma found that would have contributed to her passing.
