Hawthorne Police Recover Evidence at Scene of Overnight Mass Shooting
Three victims transported to hospitals, with a fourth later found seeking treatment.
Police in Hawthorne, California, have revealed new details regarding evidence discovered at the scene of an overnight mass shooting. The incident, which occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 24, resulted in four individuals being hospitalized.
Officers from the Hawthorne Police Department were dispatched to the 14100 block of Crenshaw Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m. following reports of gunshots and audible screams. Upon arrival, law enforcement located three adult victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. These individuals were transported to local hospitals by the Los Angeles Fire Department. Their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
Later, a fourth adult victim was discovered at a nearby hospital, also having sustained injuries from the shooting. The exact circumstances leading to the incident remain under active investigation.
Witnesses at the scene indicated that an altercation occurred among a group of individuals gathered in the area before the gunfire erupted. Video footage from the area captured sounds of at least 10 shots fired over approximately one minute.
Authorities recovered one handgun and a significant number of spent bullet casings from the location. The number of suspects involved in the shooting is currently unknown. The Hawthorne Police Department confirmed that no officers discharged their firearms during the response.
Hawthorne is situated in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County.
