Hasan Piker Sues Conservative Commentator Scott Jennings for $73M Over Alleged Defamation

Far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker has filed a defamation lawsuit against conservative commentator Scott Jennings, seeking $72.5 million in damages. Piker alleges Jennings falsely characterized him as advocating for the lynching of Black people.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Washington, D.C., centers on an episode of "The Scott Jennings Show" where Jennings allegedly used manipulated video footage of Piker. According to the complaint, this edited video aimed to portray Piker as a violent racist.

One specific instance cited in the suit involves Piker making a comment during his own stream. Piker stated he was mocking a conservative commentator for allegedly expressing a desire to return to a past era where lynchings occurred, by saying, "He said, ‘We need more Klansmen, OK? Can we go back to a better time when lynchings were happening?’"

Piker's lawsuit contends that Jennings omitted crucial context, including the introductory phrase "He said," which identified the target of Piker's ridicule. The complaint asserts that Jennings also removed Piker's laughter and subsequent explanations, presenting the sarcastic criticism as Piker's own belief.

Jennings shared a clip on X (formerly Twitter) in August, stating, "Abdul El-Sayed’s best pal and campaign partner says the USA should resume lynchings against black people. Listen for yourself and understand what the socialists have in store for the black community." El-Sayed is a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in Michigan, and Piker has expressed support for him.

Piker's suit claims the content was a "supercut" designed to make him appear bigoted. It further alleges that Jennings did not just mischaracterize Piker's words but also "took a false, fabricated, and manipulated video of Mr. Piker, added a made-up quotation that Mr. Piker never uttered, and then made accusations that went beyond even what the manipulated footage purported to show."

In the stream where the "lynching" comment originated, Piker was discussing conservative activist Xavier Durousseau. Piker reportedly called Durousseau a "grifter" and a "failed actor" after it was revealed Durousseau had previously been a Black Lives Matter activist.

A man with dark hair, a beard, and glasses speaks into a microphone in a room with framed pictures on the wall.

Piker's legal team stated that Jennings's actions were "especially disgraceful" for exploiting the history of racial terror to damage someone's reputation. They argue that while disagreement is permissible, fabricating statements and their consequences is not.

Piker is seeking $27.5 million in compensatory damages and $45 million in punitive damages. He claims he requested a retraction from Jennings in August, but none was issued.
