Sedef Piker, mother of the prominent far-left streamer Hasan Piker, has publicly stated her disagreement with her son's strong positive views on China. In a recent profile by Rolling Stone, Sedef Piker, an architectural historian, shared that she does not share her son's "love" for the communist country.

Hasan Piker has expressed admiration for the People's Republic of China on multiple occasions. During a two-week visit in November 2025, he described the nation as "f—ing sick," citing a blend of consumption-driven markets and a centrally controlled economy that he believes has led to significant development. He noted the juxtaposition of 1950s Soviet-era architecture with modern luxury brands, suggesting it represented a synthesis of his personal interests.

During the same trip, Piker also praised Mao Zedong, the founder of the People's Republic of China, calling him "one of the great leaders of this world" and a man who "changed the entire universe." Piker also controversially claimed during his visit that he had "become Chinese" in spirit and conviction.

While Piker has been vocal about his positive views on China, he has also made critical remarks about the United States. In 2019, he reportedly stated that "america deserved 9/11." More recently, he faced criticism for commenting that "it doesn’t matter if rapes happened on Oct. 7," referencing the Hamas attack on Israel.

Sedef Piker also expressed concerns about her son's online presence, wishing he would moderate his online persona and joke less. "The internet is a very savage place," she told Rolling Stone, adding, "I worry about him."

She did, however, express approval of her son's decision to stop posting shirtless photos online, joking, "I’m glad we’ve moved from naked pictures to suits."
