Harvey Weinstein Receives 15-Year Sentence for Sexual Assault
The sentence is added to the producer's existing 23-year prison term for prior convictions.
Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a sexual assault conviction. This new sentence will be served consecutively to the 23-year prison term he is already serving for prior rape and sexual assault convictions.
Weinstein, once a powerful figure in Hollywood, was convicted in Los Angeles of one count of forcible penetration of a child under 14 and one count of sexual battery, according to court documents. The victim was not identified by name but was described as a former aspiring model who met Weinstein in 2013 when she was 16.
In a separate trial in New York in 2020, Weinstein was convicted of rape in the first degree and criminal sexual act in the first degree. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison for those convictions. The Los Angeles trial, which concluded in December, involved different accusers and allegations.
The recent sentencing in Los Angeles marks another legal blow for the once-acclaimed producer, whose downfall in 2017 ignited the #MeToo movement, prompting numerous other allegations against powerful figures in entertainment, media, and politics.
