Disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein was recently rushed to a Manhattan hospital due to pneumonia and heart failure, according to sources cited by TMZ. Insiders reported that Weinstein experienced breathing difficulties and was taken to Bellevue Hospital's prison ward on Rikers Island approximately two weeks prior to July 1, 2026.
Weinstein, who has faced multiple health issues since his incarceration in 2020, was awaiting sentencing in September for a 2025 sexual assault conviction at the time of his hospitalization. He is reportedly being treated with antibiotics for pneumonia and is under observation with an IV and heart monitor.
This is not the first time Weinstein has required medical attention while in custody. In October 2024, he was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, and a subsequent hospitalization occurred in December of the same year following concerning blood test results. His lawyer, Imran Ansari, has previously stated that Weinstein has endured inadequate medical care and deplorable conditions on Rikers Island.
Weinstein was initially sentenced to 23 years in 2020 after being convicted of rape and criminal sexual assault. This conviction was later overturned, but he was reconvicted in 2025. He also received a 16-year sentence in 2023 following convictions in Los Angeles for rape and sexual assault.
In a separate development, prosecutors in New York recently decided not to pursue a fourth rape charge against Weinstein. The case, which had resulted in one overturned conviction and two mistrials, was dropped after discussions with the accuser, Jessica Mann, who reportedly did not wish to undergo another trial. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr. stated that the office believed Ms. Mann's account and commended her bravery throughout the legal process.
