Harvey Weinstein Faces Sentencing for NYC Sex Assault Conviction
The former film producer is awaiting a sentence of up to 25 years for the 2006 assault of a former "Project Runway" production assistant.
Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is set to learn his fate in a Manhattan courtroom Wednesday, facing a potential sentence of up to 25 years in prison. Weinstein, 74, was convicted in June 2025 of a first-degree criminal sex act for the 2006 assault of Miriam "Mimi" Haley, a former production assistant for "Project Runway," inside his SoHo apartment.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is seeking a 20-year prison term, citing the "significant harms" Weinstein inflicted on Haley. This sentencing marks a significant point nearly a decade after a wave of sexual misconduct allegations against Weinstein led to his career's downfall and helped ignite the #MeToo movement.
Weinstein's legal troubles began with a 2020 conviction in Manhattan Supreme Court for the sexual assault of Haley and the rape of actress Jessica Mann. However, New York’s highest court overturned that conviction, leading to a new trial. In a subsequent 2025 trial, jurors convicted Weinstein of raping Haley but were unable to reach a verdict on the rape charge involving another accuser, Kaja Sokola.
Prosecutors declined to pursue a fourth trial for the allegations involving Mann after the accuser stated she could not endure another legal battle. Haley testified in two of Weinstein's trials, detailing the assault. "I was trying to get him off of me. I was trying to push him away from me. I was trying to get him to stop kissing me and grabbing me," Haley told jurors during Weinstein's 2025 retrial. "The unthinkable was happening… I didn’t know when it was ending."
Weinstein is currently incarcerated at Rikers Island, where he is serving a 23-year sentence for a separate conviction in California. He has also been contending with health issues.
