Harry Styles Pop-Up Causes Chaos in East Village, Residents Complain

A Harry Styles pop-up store in Manhattan's East Village has become a source of significant disruption for the neighborhood, with overflowing lines of fans causing traffic blockages, mail delivery delays, and altercations. The "Together Together" shop, opened in conjunction with the singer's 30-show residency at Madison Square Garden, has drawn large crowds since its launch on August 26.

Residents and local business owners have expressed frustration over the impact of the pop-up, which is slated to run until November 1. Isabelle Phillips, an actor who works on the block, stated that the lines have negatively affected local businesses by deterring foot traffic. "There hasn’t been outright consideration of businesses on the block," Phillips said, adding that the store's staff has exhibited a poor and dismissive attitude.

The daily surge of fans has necessitated crowd control barricades and has led to lines that extend down sidewalks and around the block. On one occasion, staff reportedly stopped traffic to allow fans to cross the street, a move witnessed by The Post.

A mail carrier reported that his route has been extended by approximately 15 minutes due to the crowds. "There is no space, no room to get by... They see me coming and they won’t move," the mailman, 50, told The Post. "Without all these people, I am in and out. Life is much easier."

The situation escalated last week when Bonnie Slotnick, owner of Bonnie Slotnick Cookbooks, was arrested on charges of menacing. Slotnick reported an altercation with a security guard after the guard allegedly blocked the area where she parks her bicycle. Slotnick stated she approached the guard with a key in her hand, but police were called, and she was subsequently arrested.

Slotnick told EV Grieve that the tension had been building for weeks. "The situation had been going on for weeks and it was very upsetting. It was nerve-wracking to have to deal with hundreds of people outside my store and these security people," she said.

Barbara Horn, a volunteer at Albert's Garden, a community garden adjacent to the pop-up, noted that the area has become less serene. "They established a relationship with neighbors, but as time goes on, it gets a little wary," Horn said, questioning if the extended duration and scale of the pop-up were necessary.

Some businesses, however, have reported a positive impact. Staff at Rosie's, a nearby restaurant, noted an increase in business attributed to the pop-up's popularity.

Harry Styles' team and the property owner did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Post.
