Harrison Ford made a surprise virtual appearance at the D23 convention in Anaheim on Saturday, revealing details about a new Indiana Jones attraction. The 84-year-old actor announced that he served as the model for the Indiana Jones animatronic figure in the upcoming "Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent" ride.
"I’m pleased to share that for the first time ever, I’m the actual model of the Indiana Jones animatronic," Ford stated in a video shared during the convention. "I’m excited to see his next adventure, and I’m coming to Walt Disney World soon."
The attraction is slated for the Tropical Americas land at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, which is currently under construction and will replace DinoLand USA. The ride is set inside a Mayan temple, where park visitors will encounter an immersive underworld. According to Mayan mythology, caves are guarded by a giant snake, and the attraction will feature the creature known as Tsukán. Ford has been part of multiple Disney-owned movie franchises but has never before been featured in a Disney attraction.
Ford, who celebrated his birthday in July, continues to maintain an active lifestyle. He was recently seen on a solo bike ride in Los Angeles. In June, he told Men's Health, "I believe in training for injury prevention more than anything else. I'm an old fart and I need to protect myself."
Speaking to People magazine in 2023, Ford reflected positively on aging, stating, "I don't want to be young again. I was young, and now I enjoy being old." He elaborated that while age brings physical diminishment, it also offers a richness of experience and a certain ease.
In March, Ford received the Life Achievement award at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards, where he expressed gratitude for the recognition and called himself a "lucky guy."
