Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyo., secured the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in Wyoming on Tuesday, aiming to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Cynthia Lummis.

Hageman, who currently serves as Wyoming's sole representative in the U.S. House, emerged victorious from a five-way Republican primary. She entered the race as a frontrunner, benefiting from her established name recognition and financial backing. Her campaign also received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump, who previously supported her successful 2022 bid to unseat Rep. Liz Cheney.

Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, became a prominent critic of Trump following her role on the House Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riots. Her defeat in the 2022 Republican primary by Hageman was seen as a significant moment in the party.

Wyoming is considered one of the most reliably Republican states in the nation, with Republicans currently holding all statewide elected offices. The Cook Political Report rates the at-large Senate seat as solidly Republican with a R+23 advantage.

Hageman will now face the Democratic nominee in the general election on November 3. This Senate race is part of a notable period of political transition in Wyoming, with open races for governor, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House occurring in the same election cycle for the first time in 32 years.
