New York Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy has shared that head coach John Harbaugh offered him the position within 24 hours of their conversation, accompanied by an encouraging message to utilize his past coaching experiences. Harbaugh's swift decision came after Harbaugh's initial choice for the offensive coordinator role, Todd Monken, was hired as the Browns' head coach.

Nagy, who has faced professional challenges, including a difficult tenure as the Chicago Bears' head coach and a stint as the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinator, recounted Harbaugh's words: “Let’s let those scars go to work.” Nagy expressed his gratitude for Harbaugh's belief in him, acknowledging that he is a coach who carries those "scars."

Harbaugh also added former Titans head coach Brian Callahan and Greg Roman to his staff, prompting some speculation about Nagy's autonomy as the playcaller.

Nagy's previous head coaching role with the Bears from 2018-21 saw an initial success, with a 12-4 record in his first year, earning him Coach of the Year honors and helping quarterback Mitchell Trubisky achieve Pro Bowl status. However, the team's offensive performance subsequently declined.

His departure from the Chiefs as offensive coordinator followed a challenging season for the team, which finished 5-11, their worst record in over a decade. Despite these past difficulties, the Giants' offense has shown improvement in recent games. They are currently seventh in yards per play, operating with their third starting quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, in tow.
