Hannah Waddingham Rejected 'Celebrity Traitors' Due to Fear of Being Buried Alive
The 'Ted Lasso' star cited her phobia of being buried alive as the reason she declined a role in the first season of the BBC show, despite her co-star Nick Mohammed's participation.
Actress Hannah Waddingham revealed she turned down an offer to appear in the inaugural season of "Celebrity Traitors" due to a fear of being buried alive. The BBC series, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, features contestants attempting to deceive each other in a game of strategy and suspicion.
Waddingham, who starred alongside Nick Mohammed in the popular Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso," explained that Mohammed's involvement in "Celebrity Traitors" nearly swayed her decision. However, her apprehension about the show's dramatic elements, particularly the "hoods and burying people alive," ultimately led her to decline the invitation.
"I'm a great big scaredy-cat," Waddingham stated during an appearance on "The Jennifer Hudson Show." "This whole thing with the hoods and burying people alive, I don't care if there is a crew there or not, hell no, no, no. I will watch it from home with a nice red wine and some crisps."
Mohammed, a "Ted Lasso" co-star, did participate in the first season of "Celebrity Traitors" and reached the final roundtable. In a notable turn of events, he accused fellow contestant, rugby star Joe Marler, leading to the victory of another Traitor, Alan Carr.
In addition to discussing "Celebrity Traitors," Waddingham shared anecdotes from her interview on "The Jennifer Hudson Show." She mentioned receiving the highly coveted "Tom Cruise cake," a White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake from Doan's Bakery, which Cruise famously sends to friends and colleagues annually.
Waddingham also recounted a near-mishap involving Prince William, where she almost hit him in the foot with a dart. The incident occurred during a promotional event for Prince William's Earthshot Prize. Despite the awkward moment, Waddingham noted that she and the Prince of Wales maintain a good relationship. Prince William himself has previously shared his family's enjoyment of "The Traitors," remarking on its popularity with his children, Charlotte and Louis.
