A Hamptons-based property developer has been arrested following a boat crash that left several passengers with serious injuries, including broken bones and fractured vertebrae. Peter Mangiameli, 57, is accused of crashing his 35-foot cruiser into a stone breakwater jetty late Sunday night as he was docking in Sag Harbor Bay.

According to court documents, Mangiameli had allegedly been consuming tequila and frozen cocktails throughout the day. When the vessel struck the jetty, the eight passengers on board were thrown violently, with one passenger describing a "big boom and everyone going flying." Another stated, “Everyone fell and got tossed around. We were traveling fast before we crashed.”

Mangiameli, who runs the Hamptons Development Group, was able to dock the boat at a local pier where emergency services met the injured passengers. Among the injuries reported were a fractured leg and vertebrae, and broken ribs. Multiple passengers were reportedly knocked unconscious.

Mangiameli reportedly left the scene briefly, with one passenger stating they didn't see him again after docking. However, another injured passenger indicated Mangiameli left to get him medical care. He later surrendered to police early Monday morning.

Witnesses told police that Mangiameli had been drinking behind the wheel in the lead-up to the incident. One passenger reported observing Mangiameli "chugging" a drink that he identified as tequila, and another stated they saw him drinking tequila throughout the night.

Mangiameli was charged with multiple felony offenses, including second-degree assault and failing to report an accident with personal injury. His attorney argued during arraignment that Mangiameli had been having trouble with the boat's navigation system, which was scheduled for service.

Mangiameli, who reportedly owns several homes in the Southampton area, had apparently only recently purchased the 2023 boat. His social media profiles feature images of luxury properties and him operating various vessels. Mangiameli was hit with a slew of felony charges over the boat crash, including second-degree assault and failing to report an accident with personal injury
