Halloween Weather Forecast: Millions Brace for Mixed Conditions

Millions of Americans will be trick-or-treating this Halloween under a mixed bag of weather conditions, with early forecasts indicating warmth in many regions but potential rain and cooler temperatures in others. This year marks the first time since 2020 that Halloween falls on a Saturday, offering a full weekend for celebrations.

The Northeast is expected to experience dry conditions as high pressure builds, allowing for outdoor festivities and parades without precipitation. Afternoon temperatures are likely to be in the 60s, becoming cooler in the evening, which may mean costumes can double as outerwear.

The Southeast is also anticipated to be warm and dry, with above-average temperatures likely to keep highs in the 70s across the region.

In the Southern Plains, the influence of El Niño may bring increased rain risk due to moisture from a potential hurricane surge. However, forecasters note considerable uncertainty, advising against canceling plans at this stage.

The Midwest is largely expected to follow the national trend of dry and warmer-than-average conditions. Cities like St. Louis could see afternoon temperatures in the low 60s.

The Southwest, however, is predicted to have more active weather. An intensifying El Niño is allowing for a stronger jet stream, with an area of low pressure potentially bringing scattered rain and storms to the region on Halloween itself. This could also bring a risk of flash flooding. Cities such as Los Angeles may experience cooler-than-average temperatures, with highs in the low to mid-70s.

Residents in the Northwest can expect cool and dry conditions, with temperatures in the mid-50s, possibly dipping lower, suggesting that extra layers will be necessary for evening activities.
