Halloween Stores Targeted in Back-to-Back Shootings
Two Spirit Halloween locations, one in Michigan and another in California, were the scenes of fatal shootings within hours of each other.
Two Spirit Halloween stores experienced deadly shootings on October 30, with one incident resulting in a death in Madison Heights, Michigan, and another occurring at a Solana, California location.
The Michigan shooting, which took place around 2 p.m., involved an altercation between two 21-year-old acquaintances. The dispute escalated, leading to one man being shot multiple times. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police recovered a 9-millimeter handgun at the scene. The suspect, who claims he acted in self-defense and possessed a valid concealed pistol license, stated he fired after being confronted by the acquaintance while leaving the store with his children. Law enforcement indicated that charges would still be filed as the investigation continues.
The suspect was detained and later sent to a hospital after bystanders reportedly attacked him during his arrest. The wife of the accused shooter, identified as Alanna, told Local4 that her husband feared for his safety and the safety of their children.
Hours later, a separate shooting occurred at a Spirit Halloween store in Solana, California. Emergency responders were dispatched to the shopping center Friday night following reports of multiple victims with gunshot wounds. Three individuals were reportedly in critical condition, though official numbers and the extent of injuries have not been confirmed by authorities. Fairfield police described the incident as active. Officials have stated that this shooting is believed to be targeted and not connected to the events in Michigan. There is no indication that the community is in further danger.
Both shootings took place on the eve of Halloween.
