Halloween Decoration Sparks Outrage Over Suggestive Lyrics
Parents criticize a popular animated pumpkin for its sexually suggestive song, deeming it inappropriate for children.
A popular Halloween decoration, the Jabberin' Jack talking pumpkin, is facing backlash from parents who say its pre-programmed songs contain sexually suggestive lyrics unsuitable for children. The $39.99 animated decoration, which activates via motion sensor, has gone viral on social media platforms like TikTok, with a mother of three's video highlighting the controversial lyrics garnering over 1.3 million views.
The song's lyrics, described by critics as "creepy" and "inappropriate," include phrases such as, "We’ll be wicked for one night, morbid and nefarious, and when the sun goes down, till morning it will just be us," and "How would you like to scream all night? I’ll fill you full of fright, guide you in the darkest deeds and spoil you with my roasted pumpkin seeds."
Parents have expressed outrage online, with comments labeling the decoration "INSANE for kids," "weird and creepy," and even a "grooming pumpkin." One parent stated, "It’s not cute or funny. Knowing this is advertised to children kinda pisses me off," while another added, "It’s the most X-rated thing ever, it’s just not age appropriate for children."
Mindscope Products, the manufacturer of the Jabberin' Jack, did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the controversy. This incident follows other recent instances where children's products have faced scrutiny for allegedly inappropriate content. For example, Old Navy faced criticism for its back-to-school clothing for preschoolers, and a US-based baby boutique, Lele & Co., removed an Easter dress after a mother discovered "hidden dirty messages" printed on it.
