The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of Halloween Chocolatey Eyeballs candy manufactured by Crystal Temptations, located in North Arlington, New Jersey. The recall is due to the presence of undeclared milk allergens, which can cause severe or life-threatening reactions in consumers with milk allergies. The candy was distributed in numerous states, including California, Arizona, Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Indiana, Nevada, New Jersey, Connecticut, Ohio, and Wyoming.
Consumers may find this product in retail chains such as Marshalls, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, and Sierra Trading Post. The undeclared milk was identified when a TJX analyst examined the product and detected whey (milk). The candy's packaging does not indicate the presence of milk ingredients.
According to the Mayo Clinic, milk allergies can manifest with symptoms ranging from mild to severe, including wheezing, vomiting, hives, digestive issues, and anaphylaxis. The FDA stated that the issue stemmed from a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes.
The recalled candy is available in various package sizes, ranging from 7 to 16 ounces. The FDA urges consumers who have purchased the affected product to destroy it. Refunds are being managed by Crystal Temptations, and customers can contact them at 1-201-246-7990. Proof of purchase will be required for any refund.
As of the recall notice, no illnesses associated with the consumption of this candy have been reported.
