Halle Berry's Daughter Nahla Set to Testify in Abuse Case
Nahla previously stated in a court declaration that she never witnessed her mother physically abuse her younger brother.
Halle Berry's 18-year-old daughter, Nahla, is expected to testify in the ongoing domestic violence restraining order case between the actress and her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez.
Berry, 60, appeared emotional with red and watery eyes as the courtroom resumed on Monday afternoon, following nearly four hours of testimony from her 13-year-old son, Maceo. Both Berry and Martinez, 60, are slated to testify. Nahla, whom Berry shares with model Gabriel Aubry, was also listed as a potential witness.
If Nahla testifies, it will occur virtually as she is currently attending school. In a previous court declaration obtained by Page Six, Nahla stated that she has never witnessed her mother "hit, slap, choke, grab, or physically abuse Maceo in any way." She further added, "I have never seen my mom place her hands around Maceo’s neck, put him in a chokehold, restrict his breathing, or engage in any conduct remotely resembling the allegations that have been made against her."
Additional potential witnesses could include Berry's fiancé, Van Hunt, staffers at Maceo’s school, and various therapists and medical professionals. Berry’s attorney indicated the "minor’s propensity for dishonesty" as a reason to call certain witnesses.
The courtroom will be closed during any testimony involving Maceo or "sensitive medical issues." Martinez’s legal team challenged the admissibility of Berry's declaration, claiming it was "riddled with hearsay" and requesting it not be entered as evidence. Berry's legal team countered that the declarations were not hearsay and explained the basis for Martinez's restraining order application, which they described as "frivolous and baseless" and intended to circumvent court orders.
Despite earlier emotions, Berry left court smiling after Monday's proceedings, while Martinez departed without acknowledging her. The hearing is scheduled to resume on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
