Halle Berry Attends Court Hearing Amid Custody Battle With Ex Olivier Martinez
The actress appeared in good spirits at a Los Angeles hearing as her daughter Nahla defended her in court filings.
Halle Berry, 60, was seen attending a court hearing in Los Angeles on Thursday, continuing her custody case with ex-husband Olivier Martinez, 60. The actress appeared to be in good spirits, dressed in a dark gray plaid pantsuit with a white button-down shirt and brown shoes. Her attendance marked the fourth consecutive day she had been present at the court amid the legal proceedings.
Maceo, Berry and Martinez's 13-year-old son, has been at the center of the dispute. Earlier this month, Martinez obtained a temporary domestic violence restraining order against Berry, accusing her of physically abusing their son. Berry has denied these allegations. Court filings from Berry's legal team state that Maceo's behavior at school has escalated since the restraining order was issued, with school administrators noting increased oppositional and defiant conduct, disruptive behavior, and disciplinary actions.
Berry's attorneys claim in court documents that Martinez has repeatedly interfered with Maceo's schooling and therapy, hindering progress. She is seeking sole legal custody for matters concerning Maceo's education, healthcare, and mental health, requesting the court grant her tie-breaking authority to implement necessary interventions without further delay.
In a declaration filed with Los Angeles Superior Court and reviewed by The Daily Mail, Berry's daughter Nahla Aubry, 18, defended her mother. Nahla, who is attending college in Massachusetts, stated she has never witnessed her mother physically abuse Maceo and described their interactions as playful wrestling. Nahla also expressed that she felt Martinez did not respect her enough to shield her from public disputes about her mother.
Nahla's declaration also described her mother as a "loving and devoted parent" who can be strict when necessary. Berry's legal team asserts that Martinez has a pattern of using manipulation and litigation to obstruct interventions for Maceo, a practice they claim is supported by numerous judicial findings and court orders.
Berry has also requested that both parties communicate exclusively via the co-parenting app Our Family Wizard, with a limit of one message per day each in non-emergency situations. She is also seeking authorization for Maceo to attend a year of individual and conjoint therapy sessions with a therapist of her choosing.
Berry and Martinez were married from 2013 to 2015, with their divorce finalized in 2023. Martinez has been pictured separately at events in Los Angeles and New York.
