Hairy Bikers Star Si King Finds New Love After Navigating Grief and Personal Challenges
The television chef, 59, has found happiness with a new partner named Milly following the death of his best friend Dave Myers and a past marriage breakdown.
Si King, one half of the popular Hairy Bikers duo, has found a new source of happiness with a woman named Milly, describing her as a "very special lady." The television chef, who is approaching his 60th birthday, has navigated a series of personal challenges in recent years, including the breakdown of his marriage and the profound grief following the death of his best friend and Hairy Bikers co-star, Dave Myers.
Myers died in February 2024 after a two-year battle with cancer. King had been open about the depth of his loss, stating he felt lost and considered stepping away from his public life. He previously shared that he was unable to even contemplate working in the year following Myers' death. When he eventually returned to filming for a series about Britain's railway stations, he described the experience as "very odd" and felt a sense of guilt being on camera without his longtime friend.
The Hairy Bikers duo, King and Myers, shared a two-decade on-screen partnership that evolved into a close friendship. They met in 1992 and developed the Hairy Bikers cooking show, which began airing in 2004. Over their careers, they rode extensively, exploring culinary traditions worldwide.
King's journey to finding happiness again has included navigating his previous marriage to Jane Dodd. They were married for 27 years before separating in 2016. King attributed the breakdown to the demands and long absences associated with his career, stating they "lost each other" as he focused on work while Dodd focused on their three sons. He has since revealed that his ex-wife is "happy" for his new relationship with Milly.
Prior to his relationship with Milly, King was engaged to Australian interior designer Michele Cranston. They had been in a long-distance relationship, with King revealing in 2019 that they were planning to marry in 2021. However, the engagement ended in 2021.
In addition to personal losses and relationship challenges, King also faced a significant health scare. In 2014, he collapsed with a severe headache and was diagnosed with an aneurysm. He underwent surgery, a procedure with a low survival rate without lasting effects. King has spoken about the uncertainty of the surgery, admitting he didn't know if he would live or die. He made a full recovery, though he noted needing occasional afternoon naps, which he attributed to his age.
Despite the challenges, King expressed that he is "all right" and continues to work, acknowledging that he may still work "probably too hard." He shared that his new partner, Milly, has been instrumental in helping him through difficult times.
