Myers explained that her writing stems from her own lived experience of grief, which she describes as profound and transformative. She emphasized that grief has many facets—sadness, anger, fear, guilt, loneliness, disbelief, exhaustion, and even moments of peace—and that none diminish its reality.

"I have experienced enough of it to know that there is no simple instruction to 'get on with life.' You do get on with life. But you do it with grief," she wrote. "You learn to carry something you never wanted to carry. You learn to live around an absence. You find a way forward without pretending that what happened didn't change you."

She clarified that her intention is not to remain stuck in grief, seek pity, or let grief define her life. Instead, she writes to connect with others who may feel isolated in their sorrow, offering a sense of understanding and solidarity. She believes that grief has no set timetable and that it is acceptable to still feel it.
