Habanero Mexican Grill Closes Doors After a Decade in Newbury Park
The popular eatery announced its closure via social media, with patrons expressing sadness over the loss of a community favorite.
Habanero Mexican Grill, a popular restaurant in Newbury Park, has closed its doors after a 10-year run, the business announced on social media.
In a post, the restaurant described itself as "more than a place to grab a meal or a drink" and a "gathering place for our community, where familiar faces brightened our days, conversations became friendships, and so many of you stood by us through every season."
The eatery, located at 520 N. Ventu Park Road in Thousand Oaks Marketplace, opened in February 2017. It was a frequent favorite for its ceviches and margaritas.
"To everyone who walked through our doors, ordered your favorite dish, shared your stories, and made this place feel like home: thank you," the post continued. "Your kindness, loyalty, and support have meant everything to us."
Fans reacted to the closure on Instagram, with one commenter calling Habanero the "ONLY good Mexican place in Newbury!!" Another expressed sadness, questioning why "good places" can't remain open.
The restaurant did not state a reason for its closure, and its website is no longer active.
Habanero is the latest in a series of recent closures in the Conejo Valley. Health food restaurant All Good Eats & Drinks in Thousand Oaks announced its final day would be October 31, with all equipment for sale. Earlier, Historia Bakery Cafe in Thousand Oaks announced it would close on November 29 after seven years in business.
"As we prepare for our final chapter, EVERYTHING MUST GO! From our unique décor and collectibles to furniture and the special treasures throughout the café, we’re hoping these pieces will find new homes with the people who helped make Historia what it is," Historia Bakery Cafe said in a statement.
