Gypsy-Rose Blanchard's Ex-Husband Speaks Out After Former Fiancé's Death
Ryan Scott Anderson shares his thoughts on Ken Urker's passing and expresses doubt about Blanchard's involvement.
Ryan Scott Anderson, the ex-husband of Gypsy-Rose Blanchard, has broken his silence following the death of her on-again, off-again fiancé, Ken Urker. Urker was found unresponsive at his home in Louisiana on Thursday, October 1, which was also his 34th birthday. His cause of death is currently unknown.
Blanchard has publicly stated her belief that Urker's death may have been the result of an overdose. "I don't know if it was intentional or not. He was not in a good state of mind lately," she told People. "I'm in disbelief. I can't think. I've screamed until my throat burns."
Anderson, who married Blanchard in a jailhouse ceremony in July 2022 and was with her when she was released from prison in December 2023, stated that he does not believe Blanchard was involved in Urker's death. "Honestly, I don't think she has anything to do with it," Anderson said during an episode of The Sarah Fraser Show. "Now, I understand why the police would want to cross their T's and dot their I's, especially in her previous conviction, I get why they might look into that. But I highly doubt she had anything to do with it. I would be shocked if she did."
Anderson noted that he reached out to Blanchard's father upon hearing the news. "I said just let her know I'm sorry and I'm here," he recalled. He added that he plans to give Blanchard and her family space during this difficult time.
Urker, who shared a 21-month-old daughter named Aurora with Blanchard, died at his residence in Raceland, Louisiana. Blanchard claimed he died in bed and expressed that Urker had been "relentlessly cyberbullied" in the period leading up to his death. She stated that the online harassment had a "profound impact" on him. Blanchard vowed to ensure their daughter would know her father's love beyond what strangers had said about him online.
Blanchard and Urker's relationship began while she was serving a seven-year prison sentence for her role in her mother Dee Dee Blanchard's murder. Dee Dee Blanchard was the victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, forcing her daughter to pose as an invalid. Gypsy-Rose Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2015, and her boyfriend at the time, Nicholas Godejohn, was convicted of first-degree murder for stabbing Dee Dee Blanchard to death. Blanchard was granted early parole and released in December 2023.
Blanchard and Urker reunited after her release, and they were expecting a child. Urker spoke of their reconnection to People, saying they spent an "incredible" weekend together in April 2024, shortly after Blanchard's release. They soon discovered they were going to have a baby. Their daughter, Aurora, was born on December 28, 2024, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of Blanchard's release from prison.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed they responded to a call and found Urker deceased. An investigation into the death is ongoing. Family sources reported that Urker was discovered at home by Blanchard's brother, Dylan.
