Gypsy-Rose Blanchard Launches Anti-Cyberbullying Petition Following Ex-Fiance's Death

Gypsy-Rose Blanchard has initiated an online petition and is advocating for new legislation named 'Kenan's Law' in response to the death of her ex-fiance, Ken Urker, who died at age 34. Blanchard, 35, who gained public attention following her release from prison for her role in her mother's murder, stated on Instagram that Urker faced significant public scrutiny that escalated into harassment and cyberbullying.

Blanchard claims that she and Urker repeatedly reported the online abuse to social media platforms, but their concerns were dismissed, with platforms responding that no violations had occurred. 'Kenan's Law is about changing the way social-media platforms handle repeated reports of harassment,' Blanchard wrote on Instagram. 'One post viewed alone may not tell the whole story—but hundreds of posts, videos and comments directed at one person can reveal a pattern that deserves meaningful review.'

She emphasized that the proposed law is not intended to stifle criticism or limit freedom of speech, but rather to ensure that public figures, who are still human beings, are not subjected to abuse that erases their humanity. 'Ken's passing has made me determined to turn pain into purpose,' she stated. 'I cannot change what happened, but I can advocate for a better system for the next person who feels like no one is listening.' The petition, shared on Change.org, had gathered over 2,000 signatures as of Sunday morning. It calls for lawmakers to establish stronger procedures for how major social media platforms handle serious and repeated reports of online harassment, suggesting that a pattern of abuse might be missed if individual reports are reviewed in isolation.

Urker was found deceased in his Louisiana home on Thursday. Authorities reported discovering drug paraphernalia and a holstered handgun near him. According to a statement to People, Blanchard mentioned that Urker had been struggling with his mental state and coping through excessive drinking. Autopsy results are pending.

Blanchard and Urker first connected as pen pals while she was incarcerated and became engaged in October 2018. They ended their engagement in August 2019 but had a brief reunion before separating again. Blanchard later married Ryan Scott Anderson, whom she also met as a pen pal, during a prison ceremony. They separated in March 2024, with their divorce finalized later that year. She and Urker reunited and had a daughter, Aurora, in December 2024, maintaining an on-and-off relationship. Urker's sister has reportedly claimed that they were not together at the time of his death.

Blanchard described Urker as 'an amazing father and a man who was deeply loved,' and stated, 'He will forever be my soulmate and my red string, a connection that time, distance, and even death can never erase.' She also expressed her commitment to ensuring their daughter knows her father's love and true character beyond public perception.
