Gypsy Rose Blanchard Launches Anti-Bullying Campaign After Partner's Death
Blanchard cited online scrutiny faced by her late partner, Ken Urker, as the motivation for 'Kenan's Law.'
Gypsy Rose Blanchard has announced an anti-bullying campaign, named "Kenan's Law," following the recent death of her partner, Kenan "Ken" Urker. Urker died on his birthday, October 1, at his home in Louisiana at the age of 34.
Blanchard, 35, stated on social media that Urker experienced a significant amount of online scrutiny and harassment prior to his death. She is now urging her followers to sign a petition to reform how social media platforms handle cyberbullying.
"Kenan's Law is about changing the way social-media platforms handle repeated reports of harassment," Blanchard wrote. "One post viewed alone may not tell the whole story—but hundreds of posts, videos and comments directed at one person can reveal a pattern that deserves meaningful review."
She clarified that the initiative is not intended to stifle criticism or freedom of speech but aims to protect individuals from targeted harassment. "Public figures can and should be criticized. But public figures are still human beings, and fame should never erase someone’s humanity."
In a statement to PEOPLE, Blanchard indicated that she believes Urker died of a drug overdose, noting that he had not been in a good state of mind recently. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed that Urker was found dead in his home on Thursday, October 1, after a welfare check was requested by his family. Investigators reportedly found drug paraphernalia and a handgun at the scene. The sheriff's office stated that the case is under investigation but currently shows no signs of foul play.
Blanchard, who gained public notoriety for her role in the killing of her abusive mother, Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard, was released on parole in December 2023. Urker and Blanchard became engaged in 2018 while she was incarcerated, later separated, and then reconciled after her initial marriage. They welcomed a daughter, Aurora, on December 28, 2024.
