Gypsy Rose Blanchard Admitted Hoping Ex-Boyfriend Would Overdose, Leaked Calls Reveal
Audio recordings obtained by the Daily Mail feature Blanchard discussing her tumultuous relationship with Ken Urker nearly six years before his death.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard confessed in leaked prison calls that she told her then-boyfriend, Ken Urker, she "hoped" he would overdose, according to the Daily Mail. These recorded conversations, made nearly six years before Urker's death on Oct. 1, provide a glimpse into Blanchard's tumultuous relationship with Urker.
In a call from December 2020, Blanchard recounted telling Urker she had sent him a song after they had been broken up, and then said, "Next thing you know, he gone." She then revealed her prior statement to him: "No, even after I told him he could overdose and all that, like, he still kept himself on my email, like, he never took himself off no matter how bad we got into it or how bad it seemed like we were at odds." The recordings indicate she made a similar admission in March 2021, stating, "I hope he overdose[s]."
Blanchard's then-boyfriend, Ryan Anderson, who was also on the calls, reportedly appeared uncomfortable and attempted to steer the conversation away from Urker. In the March 2021 call, Blanchard described her intense reactions to romantic partners ignoring her, detailing how she would show up at their doors and throw objects at their cars.
Urker died on Oct. 1, his 34th birthday. The cause of his death is currently undetermined, with toxicology results pending. An incident report stated that Urker was found with drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a handgun. Authorities have not found evidence of foul play but have not ruled it out.
Blanchard and Urker first connected as pen pals in 2017 while she was serving her sentence for the 2015 murder of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. Blanchard was released on parole in December 2023. She later married Ryan Anderson in July 2022, but the marriage dissolved after her release. Blanchard and Urker rekindled their relationship in 2024 and welcomed a daughter, Aurora, in December 2024. The couple had reportedly split shortly before Urker's death.
