Gwyneth Paltrow has reportedly postponed a private dinner planned in honor of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman following significant public backlash. The event, which was to be held at Paltrow's Hamptons home, was called off due to criticism that emerged after details of the planned gathering were shared online.

Insiders told People magazine that the dinner was postponed and is unlikely to proceed. The controversy began when a photo of an alleged invitation circulated online, shared by Puck News. The invitation reportedly read, "Gwyneth Paltrow invites you to a private, off-the-record al fresco dinner at her home in honor of Sam Altman," with an RSVP email address affiliated with Goop.

The announcement of the rumored event triggered widespread criticism on social media. Many commentators expressed skepticism towards tech giants and artificial intelligence companies like OpenAI, where Altman serves as CEO. Some social media users interpreted the event as out of touch, particularly given public concerns about AI and its potential impacts.

In response to the backlash, Paltrow shared a series of satirical, AI-generated party invitations on her Instagram Stories. These featured fictional pop culture guests like Shrek, Samantha Jones from Sex and the City, and the AI character M3GAN. Paltrow captioned these with playful descriptions of fictional food and drinks.

However, Paltrow's humorous response did not entirely quell the criticism. Some fans continued to express disapproval, with comments suggesting a lack of concern for broader societal issues related to AI and corporate influence. Others, however, showed support for Paltrow's response, with one user noting, "No one trolls like Gwyneth."

Paltrow herself has previously expressed enthusiasm for artificial intelligence. Her company, Goop, announced an AI partnership with the performance marketing platform Adora earlier this year. In a conversation with tech journalist Kara Swisher on her Goop podcast, Paltrow stated that she engages with AI "all the time" and finds it "incredibly useful."

She has also featured AI-related topics on her podcast, discussing its future in health and modern dating. In a 2025 video for Goop, she mentioned using AI to create recipes, describing the results as "great." Additionally, in 2024, Paltrow launched an AI-powered meditation app that encourages users to keep their eyes open during sessions.

Goop has also undergone organizational changes, including staff reductions, as it has pivoted towards AI. In late 2024, the company implemented two rounds of layoffs within two months, reportedly cutting around 50 employees. Earlier this year, approximately 20 more employees were let go, with reasons cited including "profitability and AI," according to Puck.

Amidst these developments, Paltrow posted a video on Instagram showcasing her midriff while promoting her brand's cashmere Jules sweater. The 53-year-old actress appeared untroubled by the controversy, highlighting the sweater, which retails for $595 and was available at a 30 percent discount for Labor Day.
