Gunshots Disrupt Post-Game Interview at Pittsburgh High School Football Game

A postgame interview with players from Westinghouse Academy was abruptly halted by the sound of gunshots Thursday night outside George K. Cupples Stadium in Pittsburgh. The incident occurred shortly after Westinghouse secured a 35-0 victory against University Prep.

During the on-field interview, players reacting to the noise were seen looking toward the sound and some moved to find cover. The startling interruption was captured on video.

Following the incident, two males and a female, believed to be teenagers, were hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Authorities reported their conditions as stable. Police are currently searching for the individual responsible for the shooting.

Pittsburgh Police Chief Jason Lando stated that the gunfire erupted amid a large crowd gathered on Carson Street after the game concluded. "A couple of fights broke out. We had multiple officers from the city and Port Authority that were on the scene, helping to just facilitate people safely getting out, breaking up a couple fights, when suddenly, an individual pulled out a firearm and fired multiple rounds," Lando said.

Security measures, including metal detectors, were in place at the stadium, which also had a significant police presence. Officers were reportedly intervening in a fight when the shooting began. Police have not confirmed whether the shooter was a participant in the game.

Pittsburgh Public Schools released a statement expressing concern for the injured students and acknowledging the impact of the event on the community.
