A 22-year-old woman has reported finding bed bugs in her room at a Premier Inn located near Manchester Airport. Ellie Davina, from Bradford, was staying at the hotel on Runger Lane North on June 17 before a flight to Tenerife.
Davina stated that after lying on her bed for a couple of hours, she noticed what she initially thought was a single bug on her pillowcase. Upon closer inspection with her phone's torch, she discovered multiple insects. She reported seeing about 10 bed bugs on the bedding, some described as being the size of a fingernail.
She informed the hotel reception about the issue. Davina claims that staff were initially dismissive and giggled while she explained the situation, stating that a refund could not be issued immediately. After waiting at reception for approximately 30 minutes, she requested a different room with fresh bedding, which she then changed herself. Despite the room change, she reported feeling too unsettled to sleep and remained on the edge of the bed until her departure.
Premier Inn has since issued Davina a full refund, which she stated had not yet been received within the expected three to five business days. The incident has reportedly made Davina more vigilant about checking hotel rooms for bed bugs, including her accommodations in Tenerife and her own home.
A spokesperson for Premier Inn described the incident as "rare" and stated that the company has rigorous daily housekeeping processes to prevent and address such issues. The hotel chain confirmed that an expert supplier visited the hotel to treat the room in question. As a precautionary measure, nearby rooms were also inspected using comprehensive protocols, but no evidence of bed bugs was found in surrounding accommodations. Premier Inn apologized to Ms. Davina for the experience and confirmed the case was believed to be isolated.
