A group of six diners allegedly left a seafood restaurant in Worcester without paying a £400 bill after complaining that their lobster tasted 'earthy.' The incident occurred on Saturday, June 27, at Aegean Breeze Seafood & Steak House.
According to Paul Faulkner, the restaurant's operations director, the group became 'hostile' approximately two hours into their meal. They had raised concerns about the taste of the lobster in their shellfish platter. The restaurant offered to deduct the cost of the lobster, and subsequently, the entire dish, but both offers were reportedly refused. The group then departed without settling the £396 receipt.
West Mercia Police confirmed they are investigating the incident as a case of making off without payment. A spokesperson stated that the call was received around 5:15 p.m. BST on Saturday and that an investigation is ongoing.
Aegean Breeze Seafood & Steak House, which opened in Worcester about ten months ago, has shared CCTV images on social media in an effort to identify the individuals involved and alert other local businesses. The restaurant noted that this was an isolated incident and that they generally have well-behaved customers. They emphasized that the alleged walkout appeared to be the deliberate action of the individuals involved, rather than an issue with food quality or service.
