More residents have been evacuated from their homes in Coalsnaughton, Scotland, due to ongoing ground movement in the area. A total of 256 residents in the former Clackmannanshire mining village have been instructed to leave their properties as a precautionary measure. The cause of the ground movement is under investigation, with a link to former mine workings widely believed but not yet confirmed.

Mining records indicate past shallow coal mine workings in the vicinity.

The Mineral Reconnaissance Agency (MRA) plans to monitor the site for at least six months after the ground has stabilized. Residents are not expected to be able to return to their homes before this probe is concluded. Some families have expressed concerns that their properties may need to be demolished.

Displaced residents are currently being housed in temporary accommodations, including housing association properties, private rentals, Airbnbs, and student residences in Stirling. Emergency services gather in a residential street with a taped off cordon in the foreground

Officials are continuing to assess the situation, with monitoring equipment in place to track any further ground activity. The full extent of the ground instability and its long-term impact on the community remain subjects of ongoing assessment.
