Gregor Fisher Launches YouTube Cooking Show
The actor, known for his role as Rab C Nesbitt, has transitioned to online cooking content after initial success on social media.
Gregor Fisher, best known for his portrayal of the Glasgow 'street philosopher' Rab C. Nesbitt, has launched his own cooking channel on YouTube. This move follows a surge in popularity on social media platforms, particularly Instagram, where Fisher shared recipes and short videos of meal preparations.
Encouraged by his daughter, Cissie, Fisher began filming home cooking demonstrations last year to promote a theater show about his life. His initial video, showcasing how to make potato scones, unexpectedly garnered over 2.5 million views. The positive reception prompted the 72-year-old actor to create longer-form content for YouTube, which he refers to as his personal "cooking programme."
The actor cited a heart condition as a reason for migrating to YouTube, where he can create more detailed videos without the time constraints of platforms like Instagram. "You have got to be running about like a blue a*** fly to get it all jammed into the three minutes," Fisher commented on the brevity of social media clips. He added, "I’ve got a heart condition for God’s sake so we have migrated to the YouTube."
His first YouTube video is titled "Steak Pie with a twist," featuring the traditional Scottish dish made with suet pastry. He expressed initial skepticism about his online cooking endeavors, recalling his daughter's suggestion: "I said to her, 'Who will want to listen to me?' and she said, 'you like cooking, make some potato scones.' I thought, 'Me mashing tatties? Who is going to tune in?' Well, we did it and 2.5 million people tuned in."
Fisher also mentioned the recent cancellation of his BBC sitcom "Only Child," which he learned about on the same day he swore live on air during a radio appearance. He humorously speculated about a potential link between the two events. "Only Child," which paired him with Greg McHugh, received positive reviews after its 2024 debut and a subsequent second series.
