Greg Dyke Fined for Speeding Near London Home

Former BBC Director General Greg Dyke has been fined after being caught exceeding the 20mph speed limit near his home in Twickenham, south-west London. The 79-year-old broadcaster did not contest the charge.

Officials at Lavender Hill Magistrates' Court processed the speeding offense, which occurred on June 6 on the A205 Mortlake Road. Dyke was issued a fixed penalty ticket resulting in a £72 fine, a £28 surcharge, and no legal costs. He also received three penalty points on his driving license.

Dyke, born in 1947, began his career as a trainee reporter and rose to become a prominent executive in British broadcasting. He resigned from his position as Director General of the BBC in January 2004, following the publication of the Hutton Report. Before his tenure at the BBC, Dyke served as Chairman of the Football Association (FA) from 2013 to 2016. He also had involvement with football clubs, serving as non-executive chairman of Brentford and as a non-executive director on the board of Manchester United in the 1990s.

Dyke expressed his lifelong passion for football, stating that it had always been a significant part of his life, from playing to his involvement in the administration of the sport. He announced in 2016 that he would not seek re-election for another term as FA chairman.
