Green Party leader Zack Polanski has been selected as the party's candidate for the upcoming by-election in Holborn and St Pancras, the seat formerly held by Sir Keir Starmer. Polanski, a member of the London Assembly, will seek to become a Member of Parliament in the election scheduled for October 8.
The nomination was confirmed by members of the Camden Green Party, who voted for Polanski over local councillor Hamza Chowdhury. Polanski acknowledged the party's position as the "underdog" in the constituency but expressed confidence, stating that the Greens "have the momentum and we can win."
Labour has consistently held the Holborn and St Pancras seat since its creation in 1983. The Labour candidate for the by-election is Sagal Abdi-Wali, who currently leads the Camden Council. The seat became vacant after former Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced his resignation as an MP to focus on international affairs.
