The UK Green Party is developing plans that would introduce wartime-style rationing of essential goods and services, including meat, dairy, petrol, and flights. These proposals are being drafted by officials working for party leader Zack Polanski in anticipation of the party's autumn conference.

According to reports, the policies aim for significant reductions in personal travel, with proposed cuts of 50 percent in individual driving mileage and 70 percent in flying miles. The party acknowledges that such measures would have a "whiff of wartime" and attract significant public attention.

One proposed motion calls for the government to implement a system for the "fair distribution" of meat, dairy, petrol, and diesel, and flights. This would involve establishing allowances for individuals, which would decrease annually, a policy of rationing accompanied by additional green levies. The party's Climate Emergency Policy Working Group has stated that it will "not be OK to fly, drive and eat meat and dairy products at anything like present levels."

These policy discussions are occurring amid potential coalition talks. Allies of Labour leader Andy Burnham have reportedly initiated back-channel communications with the Green Party. These discussions, which may also involve the Liberal Democrats, are intended to explore an agreement if Burnham's Labour party does not secure a majority in the upcoming general election.

Separately, Green Party leader Zack Polanski has faced scrutiny for signing an open letter advocating for the monitoring of British-Israeli nationals who served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) over alleged "war crimes." The letter calls for the government to track these individuals upon their return to the UK and investigate potential links to war crimes.
