Grandmother Found Dead in Suitcase at Kansas Fire Station; Police Investigate as Homicide
Authorities are seeking leads in the death of Lorretta Moody, whose body was discovered in a suitcase left at a Wichita fire station.
The body of Lorretta Moody, 67, was discovered inside a suitcase left at Wichita Fire Station 22 on the evening of September 16. Two unidentified individuals dropped off the suitcase at the fire station before departing.
Moody's granddaughter, Alexis Trotter, expressed her anguish, telling KLTV that the circumstances of her grandmother's death were "evil." Trotter emphasized that her grandmother should be remembered for her loving nature and devotion to family, not for the manner of her death. "She would be wanting to be known as the loving woman she was, a loving grandmother and a loving great-grandmother," Trotter stated. "Family was everything to her. She was spunky, I'd say, for a little person. She was full of life."
The Wichita Police Department is investigating Moody's death as a homicide. Police have interviewed the individuals who brought the suitcase to the fire station, but no arrests have been made as of yet.
Moody's body was transported to the Sedgwick County Medical Examiner’s Office. Trotter voiced her hope that those responsible will be found and held accountable, adding, "She's a human, and she was somebody's family member. She was somebody's blood."
According to the Wichita Eagle, Moody had been reported missing around 1:30 a.m. on September 16, after her family grew concerned. Family members also stated that Moody had difficulty walking and required constant oxygen, and that she was found without her walker, supplemental oxygen, or daily medications.
Moody's family has established a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral and burial expenses, as well as other necessary costs during this difficult time. The page notes the "unexpected loss" has left the family facing both emotional and financial burdens.
