An 85-year-old grandfather has died more than four months after confronting burglars who broke into his home. Gordon Nicholass was the victim of a burglary at about 3:00 BST on April 29 at his home in the village of Helmshore, Lancashire.

Lancashire Police stated that Nicholass was assaulted and sustained injuries to his head and cuts to his face when he confronted the individuals. He received treatment in a hospital and was subsequently sent home. However, he was later readmitted to the hospital, where he died on August 12.

Post-mortem examinations have been conducted, and further inquiries are underway to determine if the assault was a cause or a contributing factor to his death, according to police. His family described him as a "wonderful husband, dad and granddad" and a "lifelong motorcycle enthusiast" known for his engineering skills. They also stated he was always willing to help others, referring to him as a "mister fix it" and a "jack of all trades."
