Grand Jury Probing Former Trump Aide Cassidy Hutchinson for Alleged Perjury

A federal grand jury has been convened to investigate former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson for allegedly providing false testimony to Congress concerning the events of January 6, 2021. A source familiar with the probe confirmed that the Department of Justice is looking into Hutchinson's statements about the former president's actions during the Capitol riot.

The investigation is being conducted under the purview of the DOJ's Civil Rights Division. While a source indicated that the grand jury began hearing evidence and testimony earlier this week, it has been reported that Hutchinson has not yet received a subpoena to appear. Representatives for the Department of Justice did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Hutchinson, who served as a top aide to former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, became a key figure in the House Select Committee's investigation into the Capitol attack. Her testimony provided significant details about the actions and discussions within the Trump administration leading up to and during the riot.

Protesters gather outside the U.S. Capitol building with American flags and pro-Trump banners.
