Jenny Racicot, an ex-girlfriend of Maine Senate hopeful Graham Platner, has accused him of rape, alleging he broke into her home and assaulted her nearly five years ago. Racicot shared her account with Politico, providing correspondence with her therapist and a former date as corroboration.
Racicot stated that Platner entered her unlocked home after she had told him she did not want to see him. She reported that Platner was "very drunk and wouldn’t take no for an answer" despite her telling him, "No, don’t."
"And, the look on his face and realizing what was happening, I just realized that, like, I am in a situation where there’s no consent here," Racicot told Politico, describing the alleged assault.
This accusation follows a previous report by The New York Times last month that detailed other scandals surrounding Platner. Racicot was briefly mentioned in that report, but her sexual assault accusation was not included.
Platner has vehemently denied the accusations. He previously postponed key campaign events amid speculation that the bombshell story was imminent.
