Veteran radio host Graeme Gilbert died Friday at the age of 76, following a protracted battle with acute leukemia. Gilbert was widely recognized as the voice of 'Talk Tonight' on the 2SM Super Radio Network, a role he held from 2000 until his retirement in 2023.

During his tenure, Gilbert's program was broadcast across more than 30 stations in regional New South Wales and Queensland, reaching audiences across Australia. The Super Radio Network released a statement acknowledging his passing, noting, "Graeme was deeply loved by his audience across the Super Radio Network, and that affection was mutual." The network added that he "genuinely adored his listeners and had a lifelong passion for the radio industry."

Gilbert began his broadcasting career at 2HD in Newcastle before moving on to various prime-time announcing positions across the country. His career in radio spanned decades, during which he received a B&T Award for Best News Presenter and a Raward (now known as the Australian Commercial Radio Awards) for Best Current Affairs Commentator.

In the 1990s, Gilbert ventured into politics, contesting the Tasmanian seat of Franklin for the Liberal Party in the 1993 federal election. He did not secure the seat, losing by a significant margin.

Gilbert retired from the airwaves in 2023 and had been residing in aged care since October 2025. He was known for his engaging on-air personality, including a long-running inside joke on his show involving listeners incorrectly answering a trivia question with the word 'India.'
