Governor Hochul Met with Boos and Thumbs-Downs at NYC Columbus Day Parade
Protesters voiced disapproval of the New York governor during the annual Manhattan celebration.

Governor Kathy Hochul was met with boos and visible expressions of disapproval, including thumbs-down gestures, as she participated in New York City's 82nd annual Columbus Day parade on Monday. The Democratic governor marched uptown in Manhattan, accompanied by Attorney General Letitia James and Catholic leaders, among an estimated 35,000 participants.
While Hochul received some support from the crowd, a segment of observers expressed discontent. "Get out of New York, get out of there. You're a disgrace," one individual, identified as wearing an Italian flag sash, shouted at the governor. Another protestor reportedly called her a "communist."
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was notably absent from the parade. His office stated his decision not to participate was due to ideological opposition to Christopher Columbus. This marks the second major parade Mamdani has skipped in his first year in office, having also opted out of the Israel Day Parade earlier in the spring. The parade, which celebrates the culture and history of Italian Americans, proceeded along Fifth Avenue past St. Patrick's Cathedral.
