The government has announced that more than £310,000 has been allocated to assist families with back-to-school expenses. The initiative, known as the Back to School Bonus, provided a one-off payment of up to £150 per child. This financial aid was aimed at families earning less than £75,000, intended to help cover the costs of uniforms, stationery, and other necessities for children from reception to Year 11.

The Social Security department confirmed that 2,552 payments were approved. These payments will support 1,450 primary school pupils and 1,102 secondary school pupils as they prepare for the upcoming school term. This measure is being implemented alongside a new school uniform policy that limits States schools to providing a maximum of five branded uniform items per child, a move designed to further alleviate financial pressure on parents.

The Back to School Bonus aims to ensure that students have the necessary supplies and attire for their education without imposing an undue financial burden on households. The introduction of a limited number of branded uniform items is expected to complement these efforts by reducing the overall expense associated with school uniforms.
