Sens. John Cornyn and Thom Tillis announced Monday they will vote to advance Todd Blanche's nomination for Attorney General out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Their support comes after the Department of Justice formally terminated a $1.776 billion fund established earlier this year, intended for victims of alleged government weaponization.
In a joint statement, Cornyn (R-Texas) and Tillis (R-North Carolina) indicated that a written document addressing concerns about an IRS audit agreement and the "anti-weaponization fund" was a key condition for their support. "We are pleased that the Department of Justice has issued a formal order terminating the anti-weaponization fund," the senators said. "We want to express our gratitude to Mr. Blanche and his staff for working with us on this, and we look forward to voting to advance his nomination out of the Senate Judiciary Committee soon."
