GOP Senator Demands Probe Into Don Jr. and Hunter Biden Dealings

Senator John Curtis, a Republican from Utah, has called for an investigation into the business dealings of Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden, citing concerns about foreign influence and potential national security vulnerabilities. The demand follows revelations that Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev bankrolled Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding party in the Bahamas.

Curtis's letter to his colleagues specifically asks for an examination of foreign associations involving both individuals to determine if the office of the U.S. President has been used to enrich family members. He noted that past reports about their business dealings "raise legitimate questions about foreign access to members of a sitting president's family and whether such relationships can create actual or perceived expectations of favorable treatment." Curtis further stated that "expectations of a returned favor ... could even create national security vulnerabilities."

Donald Trump Jr. and his new wife, Bettina Anderson, acknowledged that Kremlev, described as a businessman close to Vladimir Putin, funded their wedding celebrations. The festivities reportedly included the rental of a private island and a fireworks display, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. A source familiar with Trump Jr.'s response confirmed that he has since repaid Kremlev for the party. Bettina Anderson had previously described Kremlev as a "dear friend" in an Instagram post, stating he "very generously hosted two incredible nights of celebrations for us" and that "Friendship doesn't require a political motive. Generosity doesn't automatically come with an agenda."

President Donald Trump himself commented on the matter, stating he heard his son had paid Kremlev back and argued that such arrangements are "totally allowed" and "very common." Trump Jr.'s wedding ceremony took place in West Palm Beach, Florida, followed by a reception in the Bahamas. Neither President Trump nor First Lady Melania Trump attended the event. A spokesperson for the First Lady stated that she "does not, and has never had, a relationship with Mr. Kremlev" and "played no role whatsoever in organizing the wedding event and was not privy to any aspect of its financial planning."

Republicans on Capitol Hill have previously accused Hunter Biden of foreign influence peddling and corruption, which he has denied. Top Democrat Robert Garcia, a member of the House Oversight Committee, also questioned Kremlev's funding of the wedding party, asking, "Why did a Russian oligarch close to Putin fund Trump Jr.'s wedding in the Bahamas? Umar Kremlev spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on the president's son. What did he get in return? We need answers."

The wedding celebrations for Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson, who married in May, were attended by approximately 18 guests at the ceremony and 50 at the reception in the Bahamas. Trump Jr.'s siblings, Eric and Ivanka Trump, accompanied the couple to the Bahamas. A spokesperson for Eric Trump stated that he "has absolutely no clue who this person is, nor has he ever heard his name."
