GOP Senator Calls for Subpoenas of Trump Jr., Hunter Biden

Sen. John Curtis (R-Utah) has called for the Senate Judiciary Committee to subpoena both Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden to investigate potential misuse of their family connections for personal gain. The request follows recent reports that Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev funded Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding festivities in the Bahamas.
In a letter to Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and ranking member Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Curtis stated, "The country should not have to accept one standard for the family of a Republican president and another for the family of a Democratic president." He emphasized that congressional oversight should not be dependent on White House control.
Curtis cited Donald Trump Jr.'s business dealings, including his promotion of family-backed cryptocurrency ventures, international real estate pursuits involving foreign heads of state, and reported investments in defense contracting, as reasons for scrutiny. He also pointed to Hunter Biden's business activities, suggesting both individuals should be examined for potentially leveraging their presidential family relationships for private financial benefit, preferential treatment, or access by domestic and foreign interests.
The proposed subpoenas would aim to elicit explanations from both Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden regarding their past business dealings, relationships with foreign individuals and entities, gifts received, and any instances where their family connection to the president was invoked or perceived to add value. Curtis seeks to ensure a consistent level of oversight regardless of political party in power.
